Are you a catsup lover?

You can call my husband “The Catsup King.” He consumes a bottle of catsup in just a few days. He cannot do without it with anything fried, grilled, or simply dry food. But what does it have really that makes it appealing?
The good news is that catsup is low in calorie count, lower in fat than mayonnaise, and contains lycopene which helps prevent cancer.

The bad news is that it’s one of the condiments that should actually be avoided, if not, should be used sparingly because it may cause high-blood pressure if sodium content is high (The RDA for sodium is 500mg/day for adults). It may also cause allergy to certain people.

So, what if you just can’t avoid it?
• Limit your catsup to ½ tsp a day.
• Read nutrition labels – The calorie count of products vary from one brand to another.
• Look for low-sodium varieties.

Looking at the catsup of best known fast food chains, have you ever wondered what the numbers on the sachets are for?

Please enlighten me.
