I came across this article yesterday about the sad fact that still, only a small percentage of our graduates will be employable:
Who really needs to go to college?. It says, “based on the government’s latest Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed persons as of January was 2.8 million, a bit lower than the 2.9 million people without jobs reported during the same month last year.”



For this reason, governments and many private sectors choose to focus on investing in vocational education to address the sorry state of employment in the Philippines. While “short courses on automotive, computer, and electronic technology, services and trades courses (e.g. for electricians, plumbers, welders, automotive mechanics, diesel mechanics, and heavy vehicle operators) are now being offered to people who do not have the money to go to a regular college, diploma courses in “culinary arts, caregiving, information technology, tourism, and hospitality management” are getting greater attention from students who want to pursue something else beside a college degree, and are looking for greener pastures outside the country.
