A great strengthening exercise for Easter

Easter Sunday is almost here! As Christians observe special ceremonies in their local churches that distinguish their holy week, so did I think of celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ in my workout. Since “The Cross” is the symbol of Jesus’ crucifixion and Resurrection, I decided to include this PraiseMoves posture in my regular exercise routine.

Start first with the modified Cross to prepare for the more challenging Cross posture. Come onto all fours. Hands are under the shoulders, fingers spread apart. Bend one knee and touch the sole of that foot to the ankle of the outstretched leg. Place the weight on the bent knee and bring the opposite hand up, palm forward. Your arms should be in the shape of a cross. Repeat on the other side.

Return to the original side to prepare for the more challenging Cross posture. You may repeat the modified Cross if you prefer. Come back on all fours. Stack one foot on top of the other so that the insides of the feet are touching. If this is too difficult at first, one foot may be in front of the other for balance. Once you have your balance, lift your top arm up, palm facing forward. Repeat on the other side.

This posture’s corresponding Scripture is from 1 Corinthians 1:18:

“For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing; but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.”

Let us all remember that Jesus was willing to die on the cross and take the punishment for all of our sins. But He did not just die. He died on the cross and then three days later, came back to life (read Sunday’s Gospel in Luke 24). Jesus broke the bonds of death, and because he did, we are forgiven our sins. Death could not hold Jesus. His resurrection power rules!

“The Cross” posture is not just a great arm strengthener and does not only tone shoulders, chest and abdominal muscles. It can also build faith! How is that for turning your workout into worship?

Check out other postures in the PraiseMoves DVDs at http://praisemoves.com/dvds.htm. Ask me how you can save if you are interested to get one.

Happy Easter!
